Floating Intake System for Mine Dewatering
L-FIS Series
Improve dewatering efficiency and reduce sediment-related blockages with Limeda's Floating Intake System (L-FIS). Designed for pit sumps, settling ponds, and tailings decant applications, L-FIS keeps the suction intake near the water surface where cleaner water is available.
The system utilizes modular HDPE float pods and a floating radial intake design to maintain optimal intake positioning while preventing direct suction from sediment layers. Its closed-bottom construction helps protect pumps, reduce maintenance requirements, and enhance overall operational reliability in mining dewatering applications.

Key Features
Cleaner Intake Position
The closed-bottom structure and controlled bottom clearance help prevent sediment from entering the suction line, reducing wear and operational interruptions.
360° Radial Intake Design
The radial screen configuration distributes suction evenly around the unit, allowing smoother and more stable flow.
High Open Screen Area
Designed with a screen opening area approximately 6 to 10 times larger than the suction pipe area, reducing inlet velocity and minimizing pressure drop.
Rapid Site Deployment
The system is designed for efficient installation:

VC Series Floating Anti-Vortex Collar
The VC Series is an evolution of the L-FIS concept, functioning as a floating anti-vortex collar or intake stabilizer.
Instead of permanently attaching the intake screen, the pump strainer is lowered through a central moonpool opening. The floating structure stabilizes the intake near the water surface while reducing vortex formation and minimizing sediment entrainment

Advanced Intake Stabilization Technology
Benefits of VC Series
Reduced Vortex Formation
Helps stabilize water flow near the suction point and reduce air entrainment caused by surface vortexes.
Improved Intake Protection
Keeps the strainer operating above sediment layers while maintaining access to cleaner water.
Flexible Strainer Integration
Allows easy installation of pump strainers through the moonpool opening.
Modular Design
Designed to accommodate various suction pipe sizes and site conditions.
Materials & Construction
Built for demanding dewatering environments, the L-FIS features critical components manufactured from Stainless Steel 316L, including the strainer, structural frame, perforated plate, and wire mesh. This premium material delivers excellent corrosion resistance, superior durability, and reliable performance in water, light slurry, and mild chemical applications.
The system is complemented by a cast Polyurethane (PU) vortex cap, designed for high abrasion resistance, secure retention, and easy installation. Available in 85A hardness for easier fitting and 90A-95A hardness for enhanced durability, it performs exceptionally well in sand and light slurry conditions.
